Wow, this talk was a long time ago. It turns out all of my other talks about advanced DynamoDB practices have been purged from the internet for some reason, but this one remains. The other talks got into techniques that are still somewhat applicable, but thanks to a ton of new features are far less important. I had a lot of other content that talked about avoiding hotspotting, transactions, building secondary indexes — but now those are all built-in features! So I guess purging the old content makes sense to avoid confusing people.
I remember this talk being a little out of my comfort zone because it's more high-level and conceptual than I was used to at the time. But someone ended up with too much on their plate leading up to re:Invent, so I put the talk together. I wasn't making custom drawings yet in 2014, but I did spend a lot of time polishing the graphics to make them just right!
